Alpine Rock Climbing

Reppy's Crack

Finishing "Lakeview"

Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch is home to many of the longest alpine rock climbs in New Hampshire.  Classics include Lakeview III 5.5, which finishes by climbing the Old Man of the Mountain, Whitney-Gilman Ridge  II 5.7, one of few ridge climbs in the East, and Moby Grape III 5.8.  You can start Moby Grape by climbing Reppy's Crack, 5.8, the finest 5.8 jamcrack in the area.

There are also many excellent climbs in an alpine setting on cliffs on the Mount Lafayette side of Franconia Notch, including the Eaglet, Flatiron, and Eagle Crag.  See Recent Trip Photos for more photos of routes in Franconia Notch.

Pinnacle Buttress, Huntington Ravine

Huntington Ravine on Mount Washington has some of the best alpine rock climbing in the East.  The Northeast Ridge of the Pinnacle, III 5.7 is the classic line, with fun climbing, great exposure, and a spectacular alpine setting on the highest peak in the Northeast.  Other great climbs in Huntington include Independence Line, III 5.8 on the Central Buttress and Henderson Ridge II 5.4.
