AVALANCHE INSTRUCTION

We offer the largest and most complete avalanche education program in the East.  Whether you're just starting your education or you've been skiing in avalanche terrain for years, we have a course to suit your needs.

Some key points to remember when choosing and avalanche course provider:

  • Our  courses teach fundamental knowledge, skills, and judgment to make better choices in avalanche terrain. You'll also learn how to rescue your partner if they are buried.
  • Our courses all follow the AIARE curriculum, which allows you to take a Level 1 and/or Level 2 with EMS , and then continue your education all the way through Level 3.
  • Our AIARE instructors all go through special training with AIARE to help them offer a high-quality course focused on student learning outcomes.
  • Our instructors have years of experience skiing and climbing in many different snow climates.  What you learn here will apply anywhere you go.

The Level 1 course is an introduction to and review of the avalanche phenomena, travel techniques, decision making strategies, and avalanche rescue.
Available in North Conway, NH or Lake Placid, NY.

The Level 2 course provides technical and scientific information that improves participants' understanding of how and why avalanches occur, covers the factors that indicate and affect snow stability, and introduces the snow stability analysis and forecasting process.
Available in North Conway, NH or
Gaspe, Quebec.

The Level 3 course incorporates snow stability analysis and forecasting, avalanche hazard analysis and forecasting, and activity/operational planning in a high level decision making framework.

Avalanche Refresher This one day course for those who have taken the AIARE Level 1 and want to refresh their knowledge and gain more field experience.  This course takes place mainly in the field.
