Avalanche and Snow Safety Edutrip
During this two day trip you'll learn about
factors that influence snow stability and avalanche safety, while experiencing a
night on top of Mt Washington in the Observatory. We'll ride up the auto
road in the snow tractor, with periodic stops to observe snow types and weather
factors that influence its stability. We'll spend the afternoon, evening,
and following morning learning more about weather, terrain, and snowpack
qualities that influence snow stability. We'll also learn about ways
that backcountry skiers and climbers can travel more safely in avalanche
terrain, and how to perform a transceiver search for a buried avalanche
victim. We will combine indoor and outdoor session, including slides,
movies, and hands on practice with tools used by backcountry travellers.

Mt.
Washington Observatory Overnights
The following courses will spend a night at the Mt. Washington
Observatory. Combine learning about Avalanche Awareness and/or Mountain
Weather with an overnight on top of the Northeast's highest peak.
Avalanche
Awareness and Rescue
This course
will combine one day of instruction at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center with a
two-day one-night climb of Mt. Washington. Learn the basics of avalanche
awareness and then spend two days putting that knowledge into action making
field observations and decisions on our way up and down Mt. Washington.
This format will allow a unique opportunity for field study not found in most
avalanche courses. Very good physical condition is required.
